Breaking News: Oakland Kicked Off KWAV

<!--enpts-->faithundoneb.jpg<!--enpte-->According to Lighthouse Trails and Understanding The Times, Roger Oakland's program has been removed from KWAV radio.

This commentary did him in.

Oakland's statement:

Following the publication of the commentary "Ichabod" posted at our web site Thursday, November 15, our "Understand The Times" radio program that has been broadcast Monday through Friday on KWVE 107.9 for the past fifteen years was removed from the air. The final program KWVE was Friday, November 16, 2007.

For those who have been regular listeners, you will be able to continue to hear Understand The Times radio programs by going to www.understandthetimes.org and finding the "Webcasts" button on the home page. The link to the radio transcripts is under that button.

New Understand The Times programs are posted weekly. You will be also able to download the transcripts of each program or sign up for Understand The Times podcasts.

Further, when this announcement was made by the KWVE manager, Roger was in Rome speaking at a conference on Biblical Creation. Evidence was presented to support the Genesis record and the theory of evolution was exposed for what it is - great deception. Many people's lives were impacted. God's Word was proclaimed with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. New doors are opening. God is on the throne. Jesus is coming soon!

Please pray for Roger, his family and the ministry of Understand The Times, at this time. Prayers are being answered and new doors for ministry are being opened, as other doors are closing.

Now gird up your loins, and arise and speak to them all which I command you, "Do not be dismayed before them, lest I dismay you before them. Now behold I have made you today as a fortified city, and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings and to the people of the land. And they will fight against you but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 1:17-19
Sincerely In Christ,

Roger Oakland

    oh my!!!!!!!!!!!!

the Ichabod comment came on the heels of him being thrown out (according to Roger) of the Logos building. I sure would like to hear Costa Mesa’s version…………………….

what has plagued Roger is that he divides so sharply………… wonder where he learned that???…………. hmmm………..

I think I’m gonna find a safe place to weather the storm.

  2. 2 MichaelNo Gravatar

I have no inside info on this, but it sure seems strange to get canned for towing the company line.

  3. 3 Corby StephensNo Gravatar

In my world, that being outside of SoCal, there is a distinction between CCCM and the CC fellowship of churches. So when stuff like this comes up, my brain automatically goes into a mode of either thinking about CCCM, or the fellowship. I’m saying that because many people seem to lump them together, when that isn’t always the right way to look at an issue.

In this particular situation, I can’t say a word about what is happening at CCCM. I can imagine, I can speculate, because I’ve worked in that environment and that was 12 years ago. Being part of the fellowship side of things I can say that I have witnessed and been a part of what Roger is talking about. In fact I just tossed up a blog over on SMP that was inspired by Brother Oden which dealt with a similar concept. Hope I don’t get kicked out too!

  4. 4 LutheranNo Gravatar

    I don’t get it.

Did Roger get the boot because he inferred that megachurches are by nature carnal and like a corporation?

He spoke in such generalities in his commentary — I guess I don’t understand why he got axed.

Oh, and Lighthouse Trails — what a bunch of rocket scientists and wizards!

    Scintillating headlines —

“Hillary Clinton To Attend Saddleback Church”

    Wow!

What’s next? I waited with baited, er, bated, er, whatever…breath

    “AntiChrist to Attend Saddleback Church”

    No, wait — that’s Hillary!

Way to take on the important issues, Lighthouse!

    ROTFLOL.

  5. 5 MichaelNo Gravatar

The funny thing about that commentary is that I could have written it for the most part.
We do know he ticked someone off ;-)
Lutheran, I take it that you weren’t edified and informed by the house where the lights are on but nobody’s home ?

  6. 6 LutheranNo Gravatar

    Michael,

Which house? I think there’s more than one!

    ):

  7. 7 BrianDNo Gravatar

Long live free speech. Long live the internet.

  8. 8 Jessica MennNo Gravatar

I’m with Lutheran on this. I don’t understand why he got the axe.

The things he said seemed pretty innocuous, and they certainly weren’t original–many people have those same thoughts about megachurches. And he was very general in his statements–it’s not like he singled out any *specific* megachurches.

  9. 9 LutheranNo Gravatar

Yeah, Roger must’ve ticked off the powers that B.

Or maybe the Powers that C.

Or, more correctly the Powers that See.

    They’re everywhere!

  10. 10 MichaelNo Gravatar

    Jessica,

They knew who he was talking about …

  11. 11 Wondering out loudNo Gravatar

Do you think Roger was talking about Chuck Smith, Jon Courson, Skip Heitzig, Greg Laurie, et all???

  12. 12 fishNo Gravatar

I’ll add my voice to the ones who are saying that it doesn’t make sense why he was dropped from the airwaves for the Ichabod post.

Let’s remember, though, that the man did not get fired, since he was not an employee of CC. His program was simply dropped.

  13. 13 MichaelNo Gravatar

He was referring to one or all of the above.

Still, the reactions from kicking him out of the office space, then the airwaves, sounds like he ticked off CCCM.

  14. 14 Whole Lotta LoveNo Gravatar

Roger made the mistake of mentioning “Jesus People Movement” before describing the group of churches that have had their candlestick removed. And he made a second mistake for mentioning Eli and his sons. That’s a sensitive one - for a well-known evangelist who is a friend of Roger’s preached a message called “The Sons of Eli” at a Calvary Chapel several years ago and identified Eli as Chuck Smith and the sons of Eli as his sons. That got that evangelist and his comrades in hot water with Chuck Smith.

I myself would not have dared put so many of those clues into such an inflamatory statement as Ichobod. That is close to saying that Ichobod is on the doors of all Calvary Chapels. Roger might not have meant that, but I think that is how it was received.

I don’t agree that Roger is broad-sweeping in his stand on the Emergent, but I do think this was far-sweeping because not all CC churches are the same and I don’t think God sees them all as one single unit to be accepted or spewed out.

    [Please keep me anonymous, Michael}

  15. 15 Wondering out loudNo Gravatar

I love how an Amazon link appears on subjects & names in a post. I’m going to string a whole sentence together some time that is all links! LOL!

  16. 16 Mr. Potato HeadNo Gravatar

There has to be more to the story…obviously Pastor Chuck was not happy with Roger and or Understand the Times.

Because not only was his program dropped from KWAVE (so was Chuck Missler’s years ago) but when he got back from the conference in Rome his office was emptied out and his stuff was out in the hall of the Logos building.

You don’t do that because you need the office space…

  17. 17 MichaelNo Gravatar

I would really like to interact with Oakland…I can’t find an email address for him, though.
He’s welcome to come on and converse with all of us…I think we’d behave.

  18. 18 SparkyNo Gravatar

Would it be fair to say that this is probably not the first time Oakland ticked Costa Mesa off?

  19. 19 MichaelNo Gravatar

The “Eli” reference went right over my head…that explains everything.
Case closed..that was asking to be taken out.

    Wow…

  20. 20 MichaelNo Gravatar

    Sparky,

He committed the unforgivable sin…that reference to Eli guaranteed him a spot in the parking lot.

  21. 21 Wondering out loudNo Gravatar

The other interesting aspect of Roger Oakland’s statement is his quotation of Jeremiah 1:17-19

He’s obviously connecting what CCCM did to him on the same level of persecution Jeremiah the Prophet experienced from the powers that be during his day. Scary thought!

  22. 22 LutheranNo Gravatar

    Wow…

I didn’t know CC had a trademark to the “Jesus People Movement” name.

Kind of a secret sauce/secret language going on here, I guess.

Thank God I’m not part of it anymore!!

I can give you Roger’s e-mail if you wish.

  25. 25 MichaelNo Gravatar

    AB,

My thought is to bring him here to interact with his critics and supporters in real time.
I’ve been critical as have a number of the pastors, but I’d like a chance to hear his heart.
Do you think he’d do it?

  26. 26 LutheranNo Gravatar

    Dyselsik,

    It’s KO.

  27. 27 A BelieverNo Gravatar

I’m not sure. I left a voicemail telling him he was receiving some free publicity on Phoenix Preacher. So far he hasn’t called me back.

  31. 31 A BelieverNo Gravatar

I have talked to Roger at length many times regarding his concerns about CC and the movement overall.

I’m not really at liberty to share any of his perspectives with you or the PP audience.

Perhaps he will come on and respond himself. What has he got to lose! :)

  32. 32 Mr. Potato HeadNo Gravatar

    AB,

“what has he got to lose?” is right :)

Wow, it’s not safe anymore for anyone!

    Emergents get slimed by Oakland.
    Oakland gets slammed by CCCM/Logos/KWVE

Wait ’til Lighthouse goes all flashing lights at CCCM!

I wonder if Buddhists would rent Oakland an office at a reasonable rate and treat him kindly? ;)

  34. 34 Outside Looking InNo Gravatar

Somebody dumped Roger’s papers for Faith Undone(reported in his newsletter) out in the hallway of Logos Building and then axe him from KWVE. Wow! Sounds like strong arm tactics to me. What’s next? Just to think last year when I was in the S.O.M. Roger was a featured speaker for one of my classes. As Dylan said in his 60’s song “the times they are changin”.

***Somebody dumped Roger’s papers for Faith Undone out in the hallway of Logos Building***

That is really rude. I don’t get how someone can call themselves a christian and then engage in such petty, rude behaviour. I can understand someone losing their temper and doing something stupid, but throwing someone’s manuscript and notes out in the hallway is calculated meanness. What jerks. >:(

“A number of situations have arisen that have made the ministry of Understand The Times quite difficult. For example, while I was away in Canada during the month of September, my office containing my research materials used for writing Faith Undone, along with personal itmes was dumped out into the hallway of the office building where I was located. This building is owned by a church.

Of course, those who were responsible for dumping my office into the hall did not choose to inform me. Apparently there was an urgency to move someone into the space that I had occupied. A board member of Understand The Times who had provided the office for me, had to move my possessions back to my house where they can now be found piled in our garage.

This is rather frustrating as you can understand. I have attempted to find out why such a thing would happen to me but no one seems to have an answer. Apparently this is the normal way to behave when a church becomes a corporation. I can see now it would be much better to have an office in a building that was not associated with a church where people operate with a code of ethics.

Some have said that if I should go to these brothers who threw my office out in the hall and talk with them personally according to Matthew 18. But, I am confused about this, you see. Why wouldn’t they have come to me? I didn’t have a problem with them. Apparently, they had a problem with me.

However, this situation is minor compared to the words that come as missiles from the “brethren.” Apparently, some within the movement I have been part of for 20 years, believe the emerging church is just another Jesus movement. I agree. I believe the emerging church is “another Jesus” movement, and the sheep are being led to slaughter.”

    BD,

Drop me an e-mail sometime and let me know what you’ve been up to lately and how you are doing.

Dropping in an saying “hi” is much tougher than I expected!

I wasn’t expecting so many regulars. I figured the site would have an entirely new crop of posters by now. You guys (and gals) are diehards!

  49. 49 ScottHNo Gravatar

    Connect the dots:

“Apparently this is the normal way to behave when a church becomes a corporation. I can see now it would be much better to have an office in a building that was not associated with a church where people operate with a code of ethics.”

Compare the “Corporation” reference Roger used with the recent “Ichabod” article Michael posted, and it’s painfully obvious he’s talking about Chuck Smith.

  50. 50 Nosey NorahNo Gravatar

Well, a lot of us have had our notes metahphorically dumped into the hallway over the years at CC. Welcome to the club, Roger.

  51. 51 MichaelNo Gravatar

Oakland knew what he was saying and certainly should have known what the reaction would be.

  52. 52 ScottHNo Gravatar

Wowsers man! This site is taking a long time to refresh!

  53. 53 Pastor PastorNo Gravatar

There is a welcomed power shift taking place at CCCM that is wisely undercover. Roger Oakland is being taken down smoothly and effectively and it reads like a 007 novel. It is about time. Get the picture Roger, Roger.

  54. 54 ScottHNo Gravatar

Rogers statement “I can see now it would be much better to have an office in a building that was not associated with a church where people operate with a code of ethics” is a little puzzling to me in this sense.

If he has a “Discernment Ministry” why did it take him so long to realize that he was fellowshipping with people that weren’t operating as the “Church” where people operate with a “Code of ethics”.???

    His words, not mine.

  55. 55 AnneNo Gravatar

My prayer is that Roger will use his vast knowledge and history of CCCM’s history, inner workings, family dynamics and politics in a gracious, healing way and not give in to the temptation to “let it rip” beyond the boundaries of grace and love -
a tall order for someone of Roger’s talents, predespositions.

With the “ammunition” he has at his disposal, I felt his article was written very diplomatically.

If you all think his rhetoric and passion gets a little over the top regarding subjects he is not well versed in, can you imagine the havoc he could wreck if he decides to let it all hang out about stuff he does know and has personal knowledge of?

    Kinda scares me.

    Lord have mercy.

So help me out here. Was Roger Oakland on staff or an employee at CCCM? If not, was he getting free office space? If not free and he was paying on an office lease for his ministry, how did they kick him out?

Seems strange - perhaps CCCM and Understanding whatever his company name is, should be thrown into the Senate investigation.

That’s why you should always be suspicious of any church that owns a 20 story (or however many) building.

  65. 65 MichaelNo Gravatar

    Hold the presses…

    I’ve got some additional info.
Let’s just say for the record that Chuck wasn’t behind this and Oakland’s wounds are self inflicted.

There is a whole nother side to the story, but I’m retired now.
Suffice to say that it would be an error to pass judgment until you have all the facts.

Pastor Pastor said “There is a welcomed power shift taking place at CCCM that is wisely undercover. Roger Oakland is being taken down smoothly and effectively and it reads like a 007 novel”

WOW! A 007 Novel??? Remember the old days when we’d develop a script with real present life characters matching the part in the original?

So, who is going to play Agent 007 in this novel? Dave Rolph? LOL!

  90. 90 ScottHNo Gravatar

Of course we should stay Biblically correct and call him Agent 777!

  91. 91 centorianNo Gravatar

    Michael,
Wounds self inflicted?? Maybe. Is it right (assuming that Roger is telling the correct version here, and I’m well aware that there is two sides to a story) to take the man’s items from his office and dump it into the hallway??

  92. 92 ScottHNo Gravatar

Centorian, it had to be Ernst Stavro Blofeld. I’m still waiting for this story to unfold!

  93. 93 iWorshipNo Gravatar

I think it’s interesting that this guy seems so teamed up with Lighthouse Trails and then goes this route. It’s like he had some kind of replacement support strategy. No?

  94. 94 MichaelNo Gravatar

    Centy,

Let me just say that Oakland’s story is different than what I’ve been told by very reliable folk.
That’s not really how it went down.
Mr. Oakland is obviously going through a difficult time and he’s welcome to come and speak for himself.

  95. 95 AnneNo Gravatar

Hmmm, many of the smps have 007 monikers, and Mr. Oakland did throw out a pretty pointed challenge recently to CC pastors as a whole. Like what’s up with all that??

May there be a heart to limit the collateral damage among those caught unawares between the old and the new guard as the shaking and sifting intensifies in the days to come.

I hope what is remains is more transparent and simple without all the vatican like intrique and politics of the past.

I messed up my wordpress sign up and ended up as 007 which worked out anyway since I loved Sean Connery as a kid in 007 movies.

    SMP,
I figured that the 007 reference would get to you just a little but there is a bit of “under the radar” stuff going on that signals the shift of power in CC.

007 - I think Sean Connery played 007 as an adult, not as a kid.

    Yes… I’m a grammatical genius. Thanks Corby ;-)

you’re right, bummer to miss some of the MIA’s…I’m really glad to hear they are doing well.

Thanks SMP007 for reminding me there is only one OO7-SMP or Bond :-)

I mistakenly lumped the number of other double o’s into the same basket. I am encouraged by the discussions you all have over at SMP when I lurk in them there parts.

Hoping all is well in filly-delphia.

Between following the end times discussion and the oakland breaking news, I managed to fall off the blogging/lurking wagon big time. Oh,well tomorrow is a new day. But I gotta admit it was great to ’see’ ya’all tonight!

That is really rude. I don’t get how someone can call themselves a christian and then engage in such petty, rude behaviour. I can understand someone losing their temper and doing something stupid, but throwing someone’s manuscript and notes out in the hallway is calculated meanness. What jerks. >:(”

This is more common then some may thing and quite mild when it comes to some forms of retaliation. I E dog poop on the pastor’s desk after a pastor comes home from a retreat demonstrating how little some of his congregation felt about him. Being terminated with a message on your answering machine then relegated to the back row of your fellowship until you get so depress you leave. Then your blamed for being a spiritual so and so. Families kicked out because of the “sin” of one person. Pastors lied about fired with no notice because of political reasons, office door locks changed, medical insurance canceled in mid cancer treatment, because its to expensive.

Gossip spread through out a church where the pastor is driven out, lied about, physically threatened (this happens alot more then people think). Families split up, careers sabotaged for Jesus etc. It is vicious with a purity that is rarely found in the world. It truly brakes ones hearts. We need to repent, and God will forgive us, he really will.

    Pastor 2x and all:

Let’s hope and pray the power shift looks, sounds and acts like this.

Rev.4:11 ” You are worthy, O Lord, To recieve glory and honor and power; . .”

Rev. 5:12 ” Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom And strength and honor and glory and blessing”

Rev. 7:12 “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might. Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”

If not then may be Townsend and Daltrey are prophets.

“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss” Power chords follow.

  106. 106 filbertzNo Gravatar

anne, all’s OK in filly, still working on the brotherly love.

brian, as one who got kicked in the teeth as a staff member in a church many years ago, I vouch for the scripture that love covers a multitude of sins. I say that for I sat to dinner tonight with a man who led my ugly dismissal, and we laughed and shared and hugged when he departed. Forgiveness is our privelege to recieve as well as to give.

    victorious, amen.

    Dear Believers,

I am sad about what I am reading. I have no details or facts, and don’t want them. I can easily believe that any or all of it is true, because I could do it. 1 Cor. 10:13a

That being said, the comedic statements also sadden me. If this is simply a case of comedic relief, O.K. I find no relief in it, but we deal with things differently. Maybe there needs to be freedom for that kind of thing.

Whatever validation anyone might feel, including me, re. our suspicions of “them”, just remember that “they” are “us”. The Body of Christ. The Bride of Christ. His Bride.

It’s another sad day in the Kingdom. God help us.

I would give almost anything for such an event, it cant happen but I would give almost anything. For some reason that kind of stuff just does not seem to happen, I have forgiven these folks many times over, I had the opportunity to get even, I chose not to. That to came back on me in spades. I have always wondered why. I no longer have those expectations. I am glad it happened for you. God bless all back to lurking sorry I spoke up. Happy thanks giving.

  113. 113 filbertzNo Gravatar

    brian,
not all folks respond to grace when its given or forgiveness when offered, one can only try and move on. With this gentleman, 23 years have elapsed. Nearly 20 years had passed when I served that church for 9 months as their interim pastor. Not to say there weren’t moments of deep awkwardness, but walking by faith usually goes cross-grain to my nature. Living in grace and forgiveness keeps us stable when others don’t buy in. Kudos to you for not getting even when you had the chance.

  114. 114 ScottHNo Gravatar

Bill Walden, I’m sorry if I offended you. For me, Pastor Pastor’s connection of a 007 novel with this current CC flap hit my funny bone. Unfortunately, I have a weird sense of humor, I’ll try and be more sensitive next time ;-)
Yes, you’re right, this situation between Oakland & CC is sad. The irony is titillating, however, I’ll refrain from piling on.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with family & friends!

    God Bless!

  115. 115 Bill WaldenNo Gravatar

    Scott,

Thanks, I am not offended, and I do see the irony, etc., and part of me wants to chime in, but I am more sad than disgusted, plus there is speculation, as Michael has made mention. We don’t know what happened.

This probably isn’t a fair example to use, but when Saul was killed, David lamented, and said, “Tell it not in Gath”.

We had a pastor leave Napa, and when he did, I rejoiced, but had to remember that it was a tragedy as well. I knew details, and wanted to “tell it in Napa”, because the guy disgusted me. Bittersweet is much of what we deal with as believers.

Whatever has happened has been noticed by many. Let’s pray that whoever the offender(s) is/are, that they take notice that the public is watching, and their decisions are bringing reproach. The Philistines are cheering. :(
O.K….enough of that. Blessings on you guys. Give thanks, His mercy endures forever.

Roger Oakland is our brother in the Lord, He loves Jesus Christ, He is under attack right now.

Please pray for him and his family. I have meant Roger and he is a humble, courageous man.

May the Lord grant me and each of us to Love the Lord Jesus Christ with all of our heart, mind, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. It is only with His power we are able…..

Is it possible that it was something as simple as a program director making a decision that was in the best interest of the audience served? Is it also possible that the decision that was made was something toiled over by someone that is being led by the Spirit?

    Pmike

  123. 123 victoriousNo Gravatar

    Pmike
Some one being led of the Spirit would demonstrate at a bare minimum basic ethics in working with Roger and engaging in conversations with Roger face to face to arrive at a decision and plan honorable to both.

Remember; speaking the truth in love, not carrying out decisions behind someones back.

Who ever said it was behind Rogers back. A radio station has no obligation whatsoever, Christian or not, to air anything. And changes can be made on the fly. That is the beauty of live radio.

And quite frankly if the Spirit is leading someone that is a steward of God’s resources to do something then I personally believe that it would be plain old dumb to second guess that leading.

Chuck Smith is a steward of quite a bit that God has seen fit to put him in charge of. Chuck has put responsible and experienced people he trusts in charge of KWAVE to make decisions that they see best in the interest of that which God has given them. Therefore I don’t think that any one of us have any right to second guess the decisions that are made.

KWAVE is doing nothing to stop you from enjoying every minute of Roger Oakland’s ministry. http://www.understandthetimes.org

Amazing all the problems in the Church or is it?? God has invaded His people with His Holy Spirit, yet we all still have the Flesh to fight against everyday, every hour. To humble us? Yes, to have us remember that salvation is all of God, none from us, yet our free choice to receive. Yes, that’s humbling too!! Yep, this whole walk with God is He is God and we are not, yet we are now IN HIM, In His Son Jesus, by the Spirit, 4ever!! Wow. I think we ought to be reveling and treasuring what we Have received in Him and letting others know in Word and Deed. Yes, there will be the enemy lurking in the Church. But killing each other off, where is the Love of Christ there? I just attended Calvary Chapel Pacific Hills on Sunday and heard Pastor Dave teaching about the Unity of the Body in Eph. Chapter 4. That’s where I want to go. To learn to edify the body, in unity, in Christ, under His headship. Picking on others and warning all the time…. Well, if someone is really, really saved, and I believe when you are born again, it is 4ever!! Then, yes you can be prone to deception when you walk in the flesh and serve self, but the Holy Spirit, now dwelling in you will over time bring you deeper and deeper into apprehending the Grace of God that saved you (I don’t think we ever really understand Grace, but we can accept it and revel in it and live in it (in His life, now in us 4ever!!) We really need to get back to living in the perception of our own personal wretchedness of the flesh, and then to walk crucified in Christ and alive in Him, we have Personal Revival!! That is all one can do and then spread, overflow this Joy and rest in Christ to others. What they do about getting it, is up to them and God. In the last days, it appears self centeredness will abound, even in the Church. There is a pervasive spirit of evil, I think connected with the fruits of evolutionary teachings that have permeated the schools now for 50 plus years and the magnificence of mankind “spirit” that we are good and can get better….that is affected All of us!! Anchor into Jesus, tie yourself to the Palm tree as the Polynesian did when the Hurricanes came. We are in the last days!! But we need to strive for unity, yet we do need to be open to correction from each other, for no one, not even Pastor Chuck Smith is perfected yet!!! We all have flesh and feelings that can rise up and have us do things which cause division. Help us Lord to fight the fight of faith to grow into You in the wonder of your Grace, Mercy, Love and Eternal life, given to us in Jesus. let us walk in wonderment and filled with the Spirit to overflow this Spirit of Love and the truth of your Word to others, especially the New Covenant Promises that have been given to all, yet are only received by a few. In Jesus name I pray, Amen

  1. 1 Roger Oakland… we salute you! « The 8th Person
