Prayer & Praise
We love to tell the old, old story.
We love to sing the old, old song of your saving deeds of mercy and freedom and healing and newness.
We know about Exodus freedom and dancing tambourines.
We know about land and huge clusters of grapes.
We know about rivers of water and rivers of oil.
We know about the strangeness that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the dead are raised, the poor rejoice.
We know.
Give us courage to trust what we know and to obey what we hope.
We know that the old, old story-in our telling-becomes a new, dangerous, transforming song.
And so we sing!
Walter Brueggemann. Prayers for a Privileged People (pp. 109-110). Kindle Edition.

It’s hard to find the “old old story” in today’s worship songs. We’ve dumbed down everything; from the pulpit to the praise.

reading and praying as i do … so many things we can’t control … Lord, indeed we do need Your mercies, help us to rest in the Faith, in what we know of You, as we are tested – give grace to those whose bodies are assaulted with illness to heal…
the death of a saint is not hard, yet the prospect is – Lord, it is after all a once in a lifetime experience – strengthen those on the journey to go through and into Your presence with confidence and comfort these dear souls here who are tasked with the care of an aging parent on that journey to know that they have done well and blessed them far more than they may ever know in this life…

The prayer @ #12 posted by John 20:29 so meaningful and applicable to me right now. Amen. My mom not doing well – a difficult surgery tomorrow to give her some relief, I pray. I’m flying back home tomorrow evening to spend the weekend by her side. So thankful I have the opportunity to do so.
Just reread #12 again. Amen.
Lord show Your mercy strong in the lives of the many in need here.
Still praying for you all
