I wore this week regarding a trend I see (at least in my area) of seniors either unplugging from ministry or heading to seniors only churches.
Wore = wrote ???

Nonnie and her husband
Lennia and her sister
Lord God we ask that You help us, heal us, hold us, reboot us! Send Your Spirit to guide us ,to scold us, to comfort us. Be our Strong tower, our Rock, our mighty Shield. Shower us in Your love and mercy.
Lord bless all who enter here.

This morning, Lutheran Churches celebrated Reformation Sunday. Whether you observe or celebrate the Reformation, I commend the following hymn to your listening. It is my favorite.
“A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and pow’r are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing,
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us;
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
That word above all earthly pow’rs, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth;
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.” (Martin Luther, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God)
we may need this in the days to come, Jean… if one is a Believer and doesn’t know it (hard to believe there are many who don’t)… learn it…
a list of great, solid and timeless hymns might prove interesting… of course there is Amazing Grace… Great is Thy Faithfulness… so many for so many …
mine for strength and thanksgiving with tears is:
” Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.
Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counsellor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.
Help me then, in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation,
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till with Christ the Lord I stand.” (perhaps it might have been, had it been written, Mrs. Luther’s too… :smile:)
Pineapple Head, that was a good article with great wisdom. I agree that a healthy church will have people of all ages worshipping together and serving together. Well done!
However, some of what is going on in some of the more contemporary churches now (flashing lights, smoke machines, long electric guitar solos, incredibly loud, chest pounding music) is very uncomfortable for me to sit through. “We’re rocking the worship this morning” is just not the attitude of worship on my heart,. It may bring in the young and be very edifying for them, but I wouldn’t come back to that church.
Please note, I wasn’t implying that the church you pastor is like that. I don’t have any idea.
Dusty! Sweet, caring, loving Dusty! God bless you! Thank you so much for praying for Bennet. He had his 3rd open heart surgery last May and he is doing better than he ever did!
We are so thankful!!
Hubby’s shingles have cleared up, although he is still on medication for it to keep it away.
Thank you, precious sister, for caring and praying.
You are loved and appreciated.
“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” Heb. 6:10
