  2. Nonnie says:

I have so many mixed reactions to this prayer….can’t put into words. “God have mercy on me a sinner,” is all I can reply.

  3. Em says:

while i don’t think Brueggemann’s use of the word “gracious” is to be interpreted by its definition which carries the connotation of superiority … ? … maybe it is just exactly what he’s expressing here – we try to get our “act” together – and God is not often impressed with that … perhaps, He is (He finds it acceptable) when it is a sacrifice out of love for Him … like Nonnie, i am pondering this one

praying for all, especially those who have run out of script

  4. Reuben says:

A silly request, unless of course you know me fairly well. I stepped back from ministry some time ago. I had no intentions of getting back into ministry at all. However, it seems that I have been nominated as a lay leader at our Anglican church. The elections are coming up in February. I spent some time today explaining to one individual what my church past is. It only seemed to enforce his nomination.

I also spent some time last week explaining to our blog host why this is a real pickle.

I believe in the election process the church is using. I believe in it for real. I did not believe that it would result in me possibly becoming part of the leadership of the church. At all.

I asked the priest if he would back this election. He explained that as long as I was in Catechism classes (and I am enrolled), that he would support the election fully.

    Damn.

Not sure what to ask for.

  5. Nonnie says:

Rueben, From things you have shared in the past, I would take into consideration the factors of you having time to give to the leadership that would not negatively impact on your family life, as you have talked about how that was a stress factor in the past, I believe. I’m assuming you and your wife have discussed it and she is good with it.

I am happy to see how others are seeing the gifts God has given you and affirming them in this new fellowship.

I would think, “Lord, I am Your servant….thy will be done,” would be a safe prayer.

  6. Reuben,
What Nonnie said! Also, even if this were not to be right now, it does show that God is not finished using you in ministry yet.

  7. Em says:

Reuben, amen to all of Nonnie’s and CK’s thoughts – praying

  8. Candace says:

Gregory Griego, former pastor at Calvary Chapel Alb., shot and killed by son. 4 other family members killed.

  9. Em says:

    Lord Jesus, have mercy

  10. Paul A. Lytton says:

    Candace,

What a horrifying story. Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for you. I pray that you will overcome the pain (regardless of how much, or little, time has passed since then) and are able to endure the feeling of misguidance and abandonment of trust. I pray for strength to fill you in order to maintain faith. May you experience enough rest and peace to keep moving forward in your belief. God bless you.

  11. Candace says:

Paul, sorry, this is fresh news from today and did not happen to me.

Sounds like he was an assistant pastor there at CC ALB.

It’s showing up on differents news sites now.

  12. Paul A. Lytton says:

    Candace,

I misread your post and thought it said, killed my son instead of by son. I thought he was the killer and not the victim. Sorry for my misunderstanding but God bless you anyway.

  13. Candace says:

Bless you as well, for your kind heart. šŸ™‚

  14. sarah says:

Praying for the various needs here, and so heavy hearted for this family in Albuquerque.

  15. Scott says:

The news out of NM is horrific. How sad that a 15 year old boy would kill his parents and siblings.

  16. Oh Lord…please…have mercy!

  17. Terrible, praying for all!

  18. puzzletop says:

Some of us do not believe Nehimiah did this.

  19. jlo says:

Iā€™m greatly troubled by what is being reported out of albq nm, I am more troubled by what is not being reported.

  20. Nonnie says:

Praying for the other children in the family. (one report said they had 10 children)
What causes a 15 year old to do something like this? God help us.

  21. Sarah says:

Puzzletop & jlo….praying with added concern this morning.

  22. DMW says:

And all I want is the right to drive restored.

  23. Scott says:

DMW, as a truck driver if I loss consciousness at all and the DOT finds out about it, my license to drive a commercial truck is suspended for at least 7 years. I have a friend who had a mini-stroke a cpl of yrs ago at 63 yrs old and not only lost his driving privileges but his only means of earning a decent living. Last time I talked to him he seemed totally lost.

  24. Candace says:

What is not being reported out of Albuquerque, jlo?

This is the time of young men killing large groups of people. Children, strangers, own families.

Now it is one of Calvary Chapel’s own.

Puzzletop, if some don’t think it was Nehemiah, who do they think it was?

  25. Driving is a privilege, not a right, I came to learn firsthand. =(

If the privilege is suspended its more often than not because we pose a risk to others if allowed to operate a motor vehicle.

When I used to ingest massive amounts of caffeine to offset my sleep apnea induced lack of sleep I fainted 4 times over 2 years due to dehydration. Two of those times I reported them to my doctor. He had to file reports with the State of Calofornia which, thankfully, suspended my driving privilege until I had a demonstrated clean bill of health so that I would not pass out while operating a motor vehicle and while that was a highly restrictive limit to my ability to get around, my fellow drivers, their passengers and their families, friends and innocent bystanders and property owners were spared the potential of me taking myself and them out in an irreversible mishap which could have killed, maimed or disabled all in my path.

Praying, with affinity, for your healing so you can regain your privilege and have greater freedom.

Also praying for your overall situation, that there will be locals who are moved to assist and that you will continue to let folks love on you and your wife, a tough thing to do as we independent men know so well.

  26. Scott says:

“Some of us do not believe Nehimiah did this.”

You’re right, Puzzletop. I shouldn’t have been so presumptive without the facts. Nonetheless, I’m saddened about the loss of lives there whoever did it.

  27. DMw says:

I agree I don’t want to drive if I am a danger to anyone. I want the truth. But the truth in this case is not that easy. I was out no argument there, but I happen to think I was out from my head breaking the driver’s side window on impact, not before. The whole side of my head was swollen and I came to about one minute after the blow totally dazed and that is when I was answering dozens of questions from police to paramedics and the report taken when I was no where near normal is one statement made by a police officer that said I pass out all the time. Now that is not true. I never just passed out in my life. So I am willing to submit tony test they ask for, and if there is any doubt at all I will never drive again. I sure don’t want to be driving around knowing I could kill someone any moment. I mean even in a parking lot I could kill a little kid. My problem is I don’t know where to start since my doctor dumped me. I guess a good neurologist and a cardiologist to start. But if I am ok and I loose my right to drive it will be impossible for Debbie and I to keep our house due to a lack of transit in the area. It means an apartment is an area where housing cost are double where we are. So if there is nothing wrong with me I don’t know how to find out that information.

Open to ant counsel DMW and I mean walking even though I can’t walk more than a block.

  28. DMW says:

Oh yeah I already bought a three wheel electric bike. So I know this will take about 6 month to get all the test and get a hearing

  29. Nonnie says:

Puzz, I am sure everyone hopes the son didn’t do it. Such a tragedy, regardless of who did it. I hope the truth will prevail.

  30. Guitar Man said to DMV, “Praying, with affinity, for your healing so you can regain your privilege and have greater freedom.

Also praying for your overall situation, that there will be locals who are moved to assist and that you will continue to let folks love on you and your wife, a tough thing to do as we independent men know so well.”

    Adding an AMEN!

  31. DMW,
County services is where I’d start, perhaps there are individuals you can meet with in your old church or some other church in your immediate area, especially one that is “social gospel” oriented. You might have a different perspective regarding their theology but I tend to find that they are really good at the practical stuff where the system is concerned šŸ˜‰

Electric trike sounds wickedly fun. No wheelies, ok? (at least not in the first week)

    =)

  37. Em says:

good to see bigfalamikeB commenting, if my memory serves you are the pastor with the big family?

prayer request: my nurse daughter was laid off and has re-entered the education system to work toward an advanced degree in the medical field – pray that doors open and close according to the Lord’s absolute will because right now her English teacher (required course) is turning cartwheels thinking that she has discovered a new star … we all know she can write, but this professor wants her to rethink her direction … my daughter is alone and in her mid-forties and really needs to make a living
